چکیده

Background It is now widely accepted that tumor growth and metastasis are angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis-dependent providing novel therapeutic targets in malignant disease [1-3]. A common feature of the tumor vessels studies is that the investigators focus on microvessel density overlooking other parameters that might be significant, such as the size and shape of the microvessels [4]. In many aspects, tumor vessels are different from normal vessels [5,6]. Studies have revealed the importance of the size and shape of blood vessels in, for example laryngeal tumors [7]. Our aim is to develop a morphometric tool able to perform an easy segmentation of blood and lymphatic vessels to study vascularization following the hypothesis that tumor prognosis may not only be influenced by microvascular density but also by the shape and size of the vessels. To this end a segmentation algorithm based on two complementary methodologies have been developed to segment close and open vessels.

TMA Vessel Segmentation Based on Color and Morphological Features: Application to Angiogenesis Research

Given that angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis are strongly related to prognosis in neoplastic and other pathologies and that many methods exist that provide different results, we aim to construct a morphometric tool allowing us to measure different aspects of the shape and size of vascular vessels in a complete and accurate way. The developed tool presented is based on vessel closing which is a...

Extracting Vessel Centerlines From Retinal Images Using Topographical Properties and Directional Filters

In this paper we consider the problem of blood vessel segmentation in retinal images. After enhancing the retinal image we use green channel of images for segmentation as it provides better discrimination between vessels and background. We consider the negative of retinal green channel image as a topographical surface and extract ridge points on this surface. The points with this property are l...

Integrating AHP and data mining for effective retailer segmentation based on retailer lifetime value

Data mining techniques have been used widely in the area of customer relationship management (CRM). In this study, we have applied data mining techniques to address a problem in business-to-business (B2B) setting. In a manufacturer-retailer-consumer chain, a manufacturer should improve its relationship with retailers to continue its business. Segmentation is a useful tool for identifying groups...

Morphotectonics investigations of the Garehbagh basin area based on morphometric indices, NW Iran

Morphotectonic investigations were carried out by the use of morphometric indices which serve as a tool of identification in regions with active tectonic warp. Landforms in active deformation area are produced from relations of tectonic and surficial processes. One of the most significant landforms underground is rivers that are extremely responsive to tectonic movements mainly uplift and tilti...
